Girolamo Francesco Zanetti

Girolamo Francesco Zanetti (* 1713 in Venice , † December 16, 1782 in Padua ) was an Italian antiquarian, philologist, numismatist and historian.

Zanetti acquired a very good knowledge of the ancient languages early on, and also dealt with archeology and numismatics . He was a professor of law as well as Greek and Latin at the University of Padua . His first work was published in 1750, a numismatic work that immediately made him famous. In 1765 he was the first to publish one of the oldest chronicles of Venice, the work of Johannes Diaconus , which he called Chronicon Venetum .
