Girolamo Muzio

Girolamo Muzio (* 1496 in Padua , † 1576 in La Paneretta near Siena ) was an Italian man of letters .

Life

Muzio spent most of his life as a courtier at various Italian courts and died in La Paneretta , near Siena . He wrote several volumes of poetry and essays on various subjects, including "Battaglie per la difesa dell'italica lingua", in which he defended the Italian language . Equally important are his treatises against the Reformation . In one of his last works, published a year before his death, he proposed the unification of Italy . Girolamo Muzio dedicated many of his poems to the famous poet and courtesan , Tullia d'Aragona .

He is known as the author of a poetics (1551).
