Gisela Mahlmann

Gisela Mahlmann (* 1945 ) is a German television journalist. She became known as the presenter of Tagesthemen and later ZDF China correspondent as well as with numerous television documentaries about China .

She began her journalistic activity from 1968 to 1988 at Südwestfunk on radio and television as a reporter and editor in the fields of current affairs, politics and culture. From 1980 to 1981 she was u. a. Moderator of the daily topics in the ARD .

From 1988 to 1994 she reported from China, North Korea and Mongolia as a correspondent for ZDF based in Beijing. a. from the Tian'anmen massacre in 1989, and while traveling through China numerous reports were made about the Chinese provinces, which are difficult to access for Europeans and largely ignored here.

From 1998 to 2001 she headed the editorial team of the documentary series "Treasures of the World - Heritage of Mankind" produced by Südwestrundfunk .

Today she works as a freelance journalist and China expert. At the end of 1996 she and friends founded the non-profit association "Hope Baden-Baden - Schooling for the poorest children in China", which among other things finances tent schools for Tibetan nomad children.

Gisela Mahlmann is married to the radio journalist Bernhard Hermann , has three sons and lives in Baden-Baden.
