Giselda Leirner

Giselda Leirner (* 1928 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian draftsman , painter and writer .

Life

Leirner was born as the daughter of the sculptor Felícia Leirner (1906–1996) and the industrialist, patron and art collector Isai Leirner (1903–1962) in São Paulo, her younger brother was the painter Nelson Leirner (1932–2020), with whom she also exhibited together. In São Paulo she was a student of the painter Yolanda Mohalyi from 1942 to 1945 . From 1946 to 1948 she attended workshops and courses in the Art Students League of New York . From 1964 to 1965 she studied graphics at the Parsons School of Design in New York City . In Paris , she attended Pierre Francastel's sociology course in 1968 and obtained a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the Universidade de São Paulo and a master's degree in religious studies .

In 1953 and 1955 she took part in the São Paulo Biennale . She exhibited her works in solo and group exhibitions in Brazil and abroad, as well as in the collections of the Art Museum of São Paulo, the Museum of Jerusalem, the Art Museum of São Paulo, the Art Museum of Rio de Janeiro, the Art Museum of São Paulo, the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, the Embassy of São Paulo Brazil in Washington. She was married to the engineer and architect Italo Eugenio Mauro, her daughter Sheila Leirner (* 1948) is a journalist, writer, curator and art critic. She wrote four books that were published in both French and Portuguese.
