Giseltraud Otten

Giseltraud Otten (born February 6, 1943 in Braunschweig ) is a German lawyer . Until February 2008 she was a judge at the Federal Court of Justice .

Life

After graduating from high school, Giseltraud Otten initially completed an apprenticeship as a financial candidate. After passing the tax inspector's exam, she studied law . In 1974 she was at the University of Göttingen with the investigation "The development of trust in the 19th century" Dr. iur. PhD. Otten completed his legal training in 1975 with the second state examination in law. In the same year she joined the judicial service of the state of Lower Saxony, where she was initially employed by the public prosecutor and at the Göttingen regional and district court . In 1978 Otten was appointed to the civil service for life and was appointed public prosecutor at the Göttingen public prosecutor.

From 1981 to 1983 she was seconded to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice . 1985 Otten became senior public prosecutor at the Public Prosecutor's Office in Celle.

In 1995 she was finally appointed judge at the Federal Court of Justice, where she was assigned to the 2nd criminal division responsible for appeals from the higher regional court districts of Frankfurt am Main, Jena, Koblenz and Cologne for the entire duration of her service. Here Otten played a key role in the decisions on the criminal liability of the narcotics courier (BGHSt 51, 219), on the effects of the Prostitution Act on the interpretation of the pimping offense (BGHSt 48, 314) and on the possible criminal liability of a criminal defense attorney for money laundering (BGHSt 47, 68). From 1995 to 2007 she was also a member of the Senate for Legal Matters . Since 2002 she has been posted to the Joint Senate of the Supreme Courts of Justice for this Senate .
