Giuseppe Bennati

Giuseppe Bennati (born January 4, 1921 in Pitigliano , † September 26, 2006 in Milan ) was an Italian film director .

Life

Bennati studied at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia , but left after a dispute over film theory. After the Second World War , he initially devoted himself to a number of short films and documentaries . In 1951 he made his first, unsatisfactory feature film. Only the second matched his own demands for cinematic aesthetics: Musoduro was described as “outstanding” by the critics; a claim that Bennati could not meet with the following works, which were more commercially oriented. It was only in the 1960s that his two films, made in 1960 and the following year, were better discussed and appreciated by the audience. However, his creativity seemed exhausted afterwards; only one film, Giallo L'assassino ha riservato nove poltrone , which was made in 1974 and was heavily slated, followed.
