Giuseppe Ros (born September 22, 1942 in Santa Maria di Piave , Italy ) is a former Italian heavyweight boxer.

amateur

Ros was military world champion in 1963 and 1964, and in the same year he also won the Italian heavyweight championship. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo he achieved the bronze medal in this weight class, beating the 1963 European champion Josef Němec , Czechoslovakia (4: 1) during the tournament and failing in the semifinals to Hans Huber , Germany (4: 1) .

professional

He turned pro in 1965 and won his first fourteen fights. He was able to win the title of Italian heavyweight champion in May 1970 against his amateur rival Dante Cane , Italian amateur champion from 1961 to 1963 and third place in the European Championship in 1963, but in November Ros lost the title again to Piermario Baruzzi . In April 1971 he knocked Baruzzi out and became champion again. However, Cane beat him in October and took the title back. March 1972 Ros won again the title, this time by defeating Armando Zanini . The following title defenses against Cane and Baruzzi were successful this time.

In October 1973, Ros boxed for the European heavyweight championship against the later film actor Joe Bugner from Great Britain , who, among other things, worked in some Bud Spencer films . Bugner won on points in front of his own audience.

The last fourteen fights after trying to become European champions have not been very successful. Ros won only five fights, two ended in a draw, including the fight for the Italian heavyweight championship in July 1974, opponent was again Dante Cane. Ros lost the remaining fights, with two further attempts to become Italian champion failed. On the one hand in May 1975 ( Lorenzo Zanon won on points), on the other hand in September 1976; here he met his old opponent Dante Cane, who defeated him on points. After another point defeat in December against his compatriot Alfio Righetti , Ros withdrew from boxing.
