Giuseppe Vaccaro (sculptor, 1808)

Giuseppe Vaccaro (* 1808 in Caltagirone , † November 28, 1889 ibid) was an Italian terracotta artist and sculptor in Sicily in the 19th century .

Life

Vaccaro was the nephew and student of the sculptors Salvatore Vaccaro (born May 17, 1763 in Caltagirone - February 20, 1842 in Florence ) and Giacomo Bongiovanni (* 1772-1859), members of an important family of ceramicists in Caltagirone. Numerous ceramic figures in Sicilian costumes for nativity scenes were created under his direction.

His sons were the ceramists Salvatore (November 13, 1837 - July 16, 1901) and Giacomo Vaccaro (September 4, 1847 - January 4, 1931) , who were also active in Caltagirone .

Exhibitions

The Musei Civici e Pinacoteca Luigi Sturzo in Caltagirone dedicated a comprehensive exhibition to the Vaccaro in 2010.
