The Division 1B 2018/19 was the 102nd season of the second highest Belgian league for Men's Football and the third season as a professional Division 1B after restructuring of the leagues system for season 2016/17. The league's official name is Proximus League , named after the main sponsor Proximus .
The season was played in two “ tranches ” of 14 match days each. The eight clubs played against each other twice in a round-trip round per tranche. The first tranche began on August 3, 2018 and ends on November 9, 2018. The second was carried out from November 16, 2018 to March 1, 2019.
The winners of the two tranches determined the master in two games , who then rose to Division 1A. If a team won both tranches, it rose without a playoff.
The three clubs in places two to four of the overall table (except for the winners of the promotion games) played with nine clubs from division 1A, which occupied places seven to fifteen in two groups and in the final from one participant who then competed against fourth the Division 1A could qualify for the Europa League .
The teams in places five to eight played a relegated team in the relegation round . The points from the overall table were halved and added as bonus points. In the event of a tie, the team whose points were not rounded up was better placed.
On June 1, 2019, the Appeals Committee of the Belgian Football Union decided to punish Mechelen for the manipulation of the game KV Mechelen against Waasland-Beveren on March 11, 2018 in the 2017/18 season in the first division by withdrawing promotion to the first division . Mechelen will remain in Division 1B in the 2019/20 season and will receive six points from each tranche. Instead of Mechelen, the loser of the promotion games, KFCO Beerschot Wilrijk , is promoted to the first division.
On June 6, 2019, the club appealed against this decision to the Belgian Court of Arbitration for Sport. The judgment cannot be enforced until its decision. On July 10, 2019, the arbitral tribunal ruled that withdrawing the ascent was not one of the possible sanctions. This means that KV Mechelen will play in the first division in the 2019/20 season.
Placement criteria: 1. Points - (2. Bonus points not rounded up) - 3. Wins - 4. Goal difference
Point 2 was de facto not applicable this season, as half a point was rounded up at all four clubs.
