Giuseppe Vadalà-Papale

Giuseppe Vadalà-Papale (born April 15, 1854 in Catania , † September 3, 1921 in Catania) was an Italian lawyer and legal philosopher.

Vadalà-Papale completed his law degree in 1874 with a doctorate. In 1881 he completed his habilitation in legal philosophy at the university in his hometown of Catania . For the academic year 1888-89, he was also given a teaching position in theoretical philosophy . In 1894 he was appointed associate professor of legal philosophy at the University of Catania and promoted to full professor in 1899. In 1905/06 he was President of the Provincial Administration and Rector of the University in 1910/11.

He considers the application of the positive method in legal philosophy to be necessary and connects this approach with evolutionism in the sense of Charles Darwin .

In his work Darwinismo naturale e darwinismo sociale he introduced the term social Darwinism in Italy.
