Giveton Gelin

Giveton Gelin (* 1999 or 2000) is a Bahamian musician ( trumpet ) of modern jazz .

Gelin grew up in the Bahamas and attended Windsor Preparatory School in Nassau ; From the age of ten he played the trumpet autodidactically. He had lessons with the YoungArts Foundation as well as the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program. His mentors were jazz musicians such as Wynton Marsalis , Nicholas Payton , Eddie Henderson , Barry Harris , Jason Moran , Ralph Peterson , Ambrose Akinmusire, and Roy Hargrove . He studied at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, 2019/20 at the Juilliard School in New York City; He also plays in the Michael Feinberg Quartet and his own quartet / quintet. The first recordings were made in 2015 with Jovan Alexandre ; In the late 2010s he was involved in recordings with Jonathan Batiste ( An Anatomy of Angels - Live at the Village Vanguard ), Eric Wyatt ( The Golden Rule: For Sonny ), Casey Abrams ( Jazz ) and Ben Wolfe ( Fatherhood ).
