Michael Feinberg

Michael Feinberg (born March 26, 1987 ) is an American jazz musician ( double bass , electric bass , composition ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Feinberg began his career as a child and was considered a musical child prodigy . He gained his first experience in jazz at the age of 18 with Russell Gunn's quartet before starting his studies at the University of Miami . During this time his debut album Harajuku was created , which helped him to get an engagement in Betty Carter 's Jazz Ahead at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Upon his return to Miami, Feinberg took up composing, which led to the production of the album Evil Genius . After graduation, he moved to New York City, where he continued his studies at New York University and played with musicians such as John Scofield , Jean-Michel Pilc , George Garzone , Kenny Werner and Billy Drummond . In the following years he performed in New York jazz clubs such as 55 Bar , Smalls and Fat Cat .

Feinberg also worked as an accompanying musician, band leader, composer and music teacher; he can be heard as a session musician on around 50 recordings, e.g. Sometimes also with their own compositions. Feinberg played a. a. with Ambrose Akinmusire , Lee Ritenour , Ari Hoenig , Melissa Aldana , Dayna Stephens , Run DMC and Peter Bernstein 2010 self-published with Godwin Louis (as), Noah Preminger (ts), Julian Shore (p), Alex Wintz (git) and Daniel Platzman (dr) on the album With Many Hands , followed by The Elvin Jones Project , on which Tim Hagans , George Garzone , Leo Genovese and Billy Hart participated and which was released on Sunnyside Records . In the field of jazz, Tom Lord lists him with four recording sessions between 2010 and 2013. In 2018 he led the Michael Feinberg Quintet featuring David Liebman , and in 2019 a quintet that included Tivon Pennicott , Giveton Gelin , Benito Gonzalez and Ian Froman .

Awards

Feinberg was a semi-finalist in the 2007 International Songwriting Competition for Performance and Jazz Composition . In 2010 he won the Down Beat Student Music Award and in 2012 the Six String Theory Rhythm Section Contest .
