Ian Froman

Ian Froman is a Canadian jazz drummer who lives in the United States.

Froman received piano lessons as a child before switching to drums at the age of thirteen. At first he learned autodidactically. He studied at Berklee College of Music (Bachelor 1984), where he teaches today, at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida (with Elvin Jones ) and at the New England Conservatory of Music (Master 1986). In addition to his work at Berklee College, he also teaches at the New York Drummers Collective .

With saxophonist Mike Murley , bassist Chris Tarry and keyboardist and trumpeter Brad Turner , Froman founded the group Metalwood in 1997 , with which he recorded several albums. In addition, Froman u. a. with Dave Liebman , Rick Margitza , Miroslav Vitouš , Tommy Smith , Ahmad Mansour , Terje Gewelt , Sheryl Bailey , Richard Bliwas and Wolfgang Schalk , since 2010 also in the fusion formation Regals ( The Double-Duo Sessions ).
