Jovan Alexandre

Jovan Alexandre (born September 5, 1988 in Wallingford , Connecticut ) is an American jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , composition ) of modern jazz .

Jovan Alexandre, grandson of Fred Parris ( The Five Satins ), attended Mark T. Sheehan High School and studied at the Jackie McLeans Artists Collective in Hartford since 2006 , then at the Hartt School of Music . During this time and after completing his studies, he worked in the American jazz scene a. a. with Hank Jones , Curtis Fuller , Larry Willis , Charles Tolliver , Randy Brecker and with Ralph Peterson , with whose Unity Project the first recordings were made ( Outer Reaches 2010, with Josh Evans, Pat Bianchi , David Fiuczynski ). In 2011 he played in the band of Winard Harper & Jeli Posse ( Coexist ). He also accompanied the South African singer Nonhlanhla Kheswa ( Meadowlands , 2013). In 2015 he presented his debut album Collective Consciousness (Xippi Phonorecords) with his own compositions, which he recorded with Taber Gable, Matt Dwonszyk , Andrew Renfroe and Jonathan Barber . He appears with his own band in New York venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center or Smalls .
