Matt Dwonszyk

Matt Dwonszyk (* around 1990 in Hartford ) is an American jazz musician ( double bass , also composition , arrangement ) of modern jazz .

Dwonszyk began playing the electric bass when he was eleven ; in high school he learned the double bass. He attended the Greater Hartford Academy of Performing Arts and then took classes in the Artist Collective program , founded by Jackie McLean . After studying at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the University of Hartford , where he had lessons with Nat Reeves , he continued his studies at the College at Purchase Brooklyn ( State University of New York ); In 2015 he obtained a Master of Music there. Since then Dwonszyk has worked in the New York jazz scene; first recordings were made in 2014 with Jovan Alexandre ( Collective Consciousness ). He also played with Mike Casey, Joshua Bruneau , Jonathan Barber , Doug Monro ( The Harry Warren Songbook , 2016) and Norman Johnson . In the field of jazz, he was involved in five recording sessions between 2014 and 2018. Currently (2019) he is a member of the quintet of trombonist Steve Davis and the Oleg Butman / Natalia Smirnova Quartet; He also leads the formation Dwonztet , which includes Shenel Johns (vocals), Steve Davis , Josh Bruneau, Jovan Alexandre, Taber Gable (piano) and Jonathan Barber.
