Andrew Renfroe

Andrew Renfroe (* around 1990) is an American jazz musician ( guitar , arrangement , composition ) of modern jazz .

Renfroe, who is from Jupiter, Florida, first studied at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz in Hartford. He completed his studies in 2013 with a Bachelor of Music. In 2016 he obtained a Master of Music from the Juilliard School in New York . Since then he has worked on the New York jazz scene with musicians such as Nat Reeves , Javon Jackson , Terrace Martin , Mike LeDonne and JD Allen III . He belonged to the groups of Carmen Lundy , David Weiss , Ned Goold and Joshua Bruneau . With the latter, the first recordings were made in 2014 ( Bright Idea , among others with Steve Davis ). He also played with Luke Sellick ( Alchemist , 2016), Jonathan Barber ( Vision Ahead , 2018), Curtis Nowosad , Braxton Cook , Jovan Alexandre , Nick Biello and in Matt Dwonszyk's The Dwonztet .

Renfroe's own musical projects include dealing with the delta blues musician Son House using the sound aesthetics of the John Coltrane Quartet and with traditional music from Burkina Faso and Mali as part of a jazz quartet. He is currently arranging organ compositions by Olivier Messiaen such as “ Le Banquet céleste ”, which he adapted with his band. He also wrote compositions for Adam Bonomo's formation Bonomo.
