Curtis Nowosad (born April 2, 1988 in Belleville , Ontario ) is a Canadian musician ( drums , composition ) of modern jazz .

Curtis Nowosad grew up in Winnipeg , Manitoba and earned a bachelor's degree in jazz from the University of Manitoba , where he had lessons from Terreon Gully and Quincy Davis ; a Masters degree followed from the Manhattan School of Music , where he was a Fellow of the Jazz Institute and had lessons with John Riley and Jim McNeely . During this time he performed with the MSM Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Bobby Sanabria . In the course of his career so far he has worked a. a. with Donny McCaslin , Stefon Harris , Miguel Zenón , Jack Wilkins , George Colligan , Dave Douglas , Steve Wilson , Marc Cary , Philip Harper , Craig Harris and Jacques Schwarz-Bart , Cándido Camero , Dave Liebman , Jimmy Owens and Kenny Barron .

After his debut album The Skeptic & the Cynic (2012, inter alia with the pianist Taylor Eigsti ) Nowosad and his quintet released the album Dialectics (Cellar Live) in 2015, which was nominated for the Juno Award as "Jazz Album of the Year: Solo" ; Contributing musicians were Jimmy Greene , Derrick Gardner , Steve Kirby and Will Bonness .
