Marc Cary

Marc Anthony Cary (born January 29, 1967 in New York City ) is an American jazz pianist and arranger .

Live and act

Marc grew up in Washington, DC and began his career in the go-go scene there, then worked in New York City with the support of Mickey Bass and Beaver Harris . From the early 1990s he appeared with Art Taylor , Betty Carter and Roy Hargrove ( The Vibe , 1992). In 1994 he became an accompanist and arranger for Abbey Lincoln . In the same year his debut album Cary On was released . a. Roy Hargrove, Ron Blake and Dwayne Burno participated. This was followed by two productions for the Arabesque label , Listen (with Terell Stafford ) and The Antidote at the end of the 1990s . After an electronica project ( Rhodes Ahead ), he began working with an acoustic piano trio in 2000.

Cary currently leads (2012) the Focus Trio with drummer Duane King and bassist Tarus Mateen . In his music - influenced by Randy Weston and McCoy Tyner - he processes post-bop with Afro-Cuban rhythms and electronic grooves.
