The Gjelsvik Spur is a rock spur in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . In the Butcher Ridge of the Cook Mountains it rises 3 km northwest of Mount Ayres .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 2001 after the US geophysicist Per Gjelsvik from the University of Wisconsin – Madison , who was involved in aeromagnetic surveying work in the area of the Transantarctic Mountains bordering the Ross Ice Shelf between 1963 and 1964 .
