Gladys Tantaquidgeon

Gladys Tantaquidgeon (born June 15, 1899 - November 1, 2005 in Uncasville , Connecticut ), was an American anthropologist , matriarch and medicine woman of indigenous origin ( Mohegan ).

Live and act

As a descendant of the Mohegan Sachem Uncas , Tantaquidgeon traditionally grew up. From 1919 she began studying anthropology with Frank Speck at the University of Pennsylvania . During her life, which stretched over three centuries, she was committed to the preservation of indigenous languages , arts and customs .
