Glass-water theory
The term glass-water theory ( Russian теория стакана воды , transkr. Teorija stakana wody ; transl. Teoriâ stakana vody ) is a derogatory term by Lenin for the sexual morality propagated by the Russian communist and women's rights activist Alexandra Kollontai in socialism .
Shortly after the October Revolution of 1917, “glass-water theory” was the catchphrase. According to this theory, having sex should be as natural as drinking a glass of water. With her defense of free love , Kollontai stood in stark contrast to the bourgeois morality of the time. Allegedly, she recommended consuming sexuality like a glass of water. According to Clara Zetkin ( Memoirs of Lenin , 1925), Lenin made the following comments:
“I consider the famous glass water theory to be completely un-Marxist and, on top of that, anti-social [...]. Thirst wants to be satisfied. But will normal people lie in the street excrement under normal conditions and drink from a puddle? "
According to Lenin, the youth should focus their energies on the revolution. Indirectly, he blames Kollontai for the fact that the theory has made young people wild.
