Glass thickness gauge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A glass thickness meter is used to determine the thickness of a (installed) pane of glass . Another, rarely used name is vitrometer ( Latin vitrum "glass").

Optical glass thickness gauges use the light refractions that occur on the glass surfaces. For this purpose, a gauge is held against the pane at an angle of 45 ° and it is observed at which points on the gauge reflections are shown. The thickness can then be read off the gauge. Laser-assisted systems determine the thickness by calculating the travel time of a laser beam. While optical gauges are only suitable for simple glass, laser measuring devices are also suitable for multi-pane insulating glass and the determination of the air gaps.
