history
In the years 1332-1337, a settlement called Monisa was first mentioned in the papal tithe lists .
On the Josephine land survey of 1717, the place Moshnitz is registered as a Romanian village with 50 houses. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718), when the Banat became a Habsburg crown domain , Moshnitz was part of the Temescher Banat .
On June 4, 1920, the Banat was divided into three parts as a result of the Treaty of Trianon . The largest, eastern part, to which Moșnița Veche also belongs, fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
According to legend, Moșnița owes its creation to the Romanian Moș Niță. The old village was originally on the Subuleasa river bank . After a flood, Moș Niță moved the village to its present location. However, the villagers remained in the possession of the old village green. In 1820, the nearby forest was given to them instead. In 1904 the Habsburg camera administration cleared the forest and settled Hungarians here. The new village was given the place name Moşnița Nouă, while the old village was henceforth called Moşnița Veche.
Moșnița Nouă developed better economically thanks to its more favorable location on the Timișoara - Buziaș road and became the seat of the municipality, while Moșnița Veche lost this status. Thanks to its proximity to Timișoara, Moșnița Veche is experiencing positive economic and demographic development today.
