history

At the place where Buziaș is today, there was a Roman fortress called Ahihis as early as 101 . Buziaș has been documented since 1320, when it was given to nobles by King Charles Robert of Anjou . After the Peace of Passarowitz on July 21, 1718, after 164 years of Turkish rule, the Banat was attached to the Habsburg Monarchy and, as the imperial crown and chamber domain, was subordinated to the Vienna government. The Habsburg colonization of the Banat began with the so-called Swabian trains . Germans were settled here between 1782 and 1821.

In 1886 Buzias hosted the 13th Congress for Doctors and Naturalists from Hungary and Transylvania , which was also attended by specialists from Europe and Asia. Emperor Franz Joseph I and Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand visited and lived here in Buzias in 1898 when they took part in a military maneuver. The former imperial villa can still be seen.

On June 4, 1920, the Banat was divided into three parts as a result of the Treaty of Trianon . The largest, eastern part, to which Busiasch also belonged, fell to the Kingdom of Romania .

As a result of the Waffen-SS agreement of May 12, 1943 between the Antonescu government and Hitler's Germany , all men of German origin who were conscripted into the German army. Before the end of the war, in January 1945, all ethnic German women between the ages of 18 and 30 and men between the ages of 16 and 45 were deported to the Soviet Union for reconstruction work .

The Land Reform Act of March 23, 1945 , which provided for the expropriation of German farmers in Romania, deprived the rural population of their livelihoods. The expropriated land was distributed to smallholders, farm workers and colonists from other parts of the country. The collectivization of agriculture was initiated in the early 1950s . Through the nationalization law of June 11, 1948 , which provided for the nationalization of all industrial and commercial enterprises, banks and insurance companies, the expropriation of all economic enterprises took place regardless of ethnicity.

In 1956 Buziaș received city rights. Mayor of the city is Alger Viorel Ilaș ( PSD ).

Mineral water springs

The Buziaș mineral water is still one of the most sought-after medicinal and table waters in the Banat . Even the Romans used the healing power of carbonated mineral water. The first chemical analysis of the mineral water took place in 1796, but its healing properties were not recognized until the beginning of the 19th century. The carbonated mineral springs were first discovered by Dr. Johann Bernhard Lindenmayr discovered between 1805 and 1811. The first guests cured in 1811 by drinking mineral water. Later they also bathed in it. The most famous source of healing water is the Josef spring . In 1839 Busiasch was officially declared a health resort. When the mineral water springs came into the possession of the Muschong family, the health resort flourished.

Park and spa facility

A park was created with 200 plane trees brought from Italy. A 500 m long covered walkway ran through the park and 22 villas were built to accommodate the spa guests. The park extends over an area of 20 hectares and has numerous rare tree species. The facility is built in the Turkish-Byzantine style and is unique in Romania. Similar promenades can only be found in Karlovy Vary and Baden-Baden in Europe .

In 1874, Europe's first mineral water outdoor pool was opened in Buziaș. In 1900 the resort had 5 tennis courts and the park was enriched with 20 palm trees brought from Palermo. As the health resort is located a few kilometers from the train station, a narrow-gauge railway was built to transport the health resort guests. Later a zoo was created here in the middle of the forest. Among the most prominent spa guests in Buziaș were Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, Crown Prince Ferdinand and King Ferdinand I of Romania.

Natural healing factors are air ionization and the carbonated mineral water, which is used both in the external treatment in the form of baths and in the internal treatment. The cures in Bad Busiasch are recommended for the following diseases: cardiovascular diseases, nutritional and metabolic disorders, neuroendocrinological disorders, disorders of the central nervous system, kidney and urinary tract disorders, disorders of the esophagus.

The "little train"

Since Buziaș is not located directly at the train station, the owner of the spa at the time, Jakob Muschong (1868-1923), built a narrow-gauge railway . The construction of the line began in 1912 and was completed in 1919. Muschong used two passenger cars to transport his bathers and a freight car, the so-called parcel wagon, for the transport of mineral water and carbon dioxide containers as well as for the bathers' luggage .
