Sacoșu Mare (also Sacoșu Unguresc , German: Groß-Sakosch , Hungarian-Sakosch , Hungarian: Magyarszákos , Nagy-Szákos ) is a village in Timiș County , Banat , Romania . Sacoșu Mare belongs to the Darova municipality .

Geographical location

Sacoșu Mare is located on the DJ 592 Darova - Hodoș county road in the south of Timiș County, close to the border with Caraș-Severin County .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1290 when King Ladislaus I stayed in Zekes for a few days . In 1369 Nogzekes counted 438 houses and belonged to the Komjat district . The scholar Marsigli mentioned the village of Szakos ungaricum 1690-1700 , in 1760 Nagy Szakos had 683 houses and 3283 inhabitants. In 1779 the village belonged to Severin County . After the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the trisection of the Banat, which Sacoșu Unguresc fell to the Kingdom of Romania . Today the official place name is Sacoșu Mare .

gold treasure

In 1961 archaeological excavations uncovered 25 vessels made of gold with a total weight of 1,298 kilos. The finds, which date from the Bronze and Iron Ages , are of Thracian origin. The gold treasure is exhibited in the National Museum in Bucharest .
