history

The first written mention of the Komjat settlement comes from 1547, when the settlement belonged to Arad County . At that time, the village consisted of two settlements Dolni Komjat (Unter-Komjat) and Gorni Komjat (Upper Komjat). Both settlements were inhabited on the Mercy map of 1723/24. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718), when the Banat became a Habsburg crown domain , Komjat was part of the Temescher Banat .

In 1771 42 German families were settled and the official place name was Lichtenwald . In 1782 Iosif Pottyondy was the landowner. At the same time, the Germans began to emigrate to the neighboring towns of Charlottenburg and Altringen . Later Petru and Francisc Ciocan were the landlords of Comeat.

After the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three parts , whereby Komjáth fell to the Kingdom of Romania . Comeat has been the official place name since then . In the interwar period Comeat belonged to the Temes County - Torontal , Lipova district .
