history

Bazoșu Nou was founded in 1926 when 46 families from Tălmăcel , Tălmaciu municipality in Transylvania , Sibiu County settled here. The then landowner, Count Lajos Ambrózy, lived in the castle in Remetea Mare .

The Bazoș Dendrological Park is an arboretum that was laid out by Count Ambrózy between 1909 and 1914. Ambrózy, who was the Austro-Hungarian ambassador to the United States at the time, had access to the Harvard University arboretum , from where he brought mainly North American and Asian tree species. The park now extends over a 60 hectare nature reserve and is home to over 800 groups of plants from five continents.
