The glass mite ( Neumania vernalis ) is a species from the superfamily of freshwater mites (Hydrachnellae).
The animals are translucent yellowish to bluish in color. The palps are small and much thinner than the front legs and have short hair humps. The hip plates of the forelegs, which reach down to those of the hind legs, are long and pointed; those of the hind legs have a hook on the rear edge. The legs, especially the hind legs, are equipped with floating bristles.
The glass mite lives in standing water and is the most common of ten Central European species of the Neumania genus .
