geography
The Glattalpsee has an area of 27.6 hectares and is located at an altitude of 1853 m above sea level. M. Although it is still in the eastern part of the canton of Schwyz, the region is already part of the Glarus Alps . The lake is fed by the Glattalpseebach , the Hinter Läckibach and the Vorderer Läckibach .
The natural lake has no surface drainage. Some of the water seeps into the karst subsoil, the rest is used by the Sahli power station. The lake water flows through a steep pressure pipe to the power plant, which produces electricity for around 4,000 households.
From the Glattalphütte there is a 7-kilometer hiking trail around the lake. Almost two hours must be planned for this circular hike with only slight differences in altitude.
reachability
A cable car runs between Sahli (Bisisthal) and Glattalp . The Glattalpsee is easily accessible on foot from the mountain station of the cable car. The Glattalphütte and a restaurant are located between the mountain station and the lake. The ascent on foot from Bisisthal is demanding because of the relatively large height difference and requires surefootedness.
