Glen Grant is the oldest whiskey distillery in Rothes , Moray , Scotland , UK .
history
The distillery was founded in 1840 by the brothers John and James Grant. After the two founders died in 1872, James Grant's son took over the distillery. In 1898 he replaced the original Floormaltings by Drummaltings and built on the street, the distillery Caperdonich , the then Glen Grant No. 2 was called. Until Glen Grant No. 2 In 1902 the two distilleries were connected by a pipeline. The distillery was expanded in 1973 from four to six and in 1977 by the new owners Seagram to eight stills. From 2001 to the end of 2005 the distillery belonged to Pernod Ricard , but after the takeover of Allied Domecq , the distillery had to be sold for competition reasons. The Campari Group is now the new owner .

The water for the Speyside distillery comes from the Caperdonich Well and the Glen Grant Burn. The distillery has a mash tun ( mash do ) (12 t) of steel and ten fermenting vessels ( wash backs ) (per 19,916 liters) of pine wood . Distillation takes place in four wash stills (22,730 l each) and four spirit stills (11,547 l each). The original stills are heated with charcoal and those that have been added later with steam .
Trivia
In 1997, the then owner published a plagiarism of the board game The Settlers of Catan under the title "The Water of Life" (known among collectors as the "Whiskey Settlers").
