Glenluiart House

Glenluiart House is a villa near the Scottish village of Moniaive in the Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . In 1986 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

description

The villa was built in 1900 for a Mrs. Monteith . The year of construction and her initials "EMM" are engraved on the foundation stone. The architect James Barbour coordinated the construction, which was completed the following year. Glenluiart House is located off the B729 about one kilometer west of Moniaive not far from the Craigdarroch Waters .

The villa adopts stylistic elements of the Arts and Crafts movement . The masonry of the asymmetrically constructed, two- to three-story building consists of quarry stone , which is set off with red natural stone details . Elongated windows flank the entrance door on the south-facing front. Various illuminations emerge from the facades . They are designed with coupled quadruple windows with natural stone facings and posts, as they were also installed in other locations along the south facade. The overhanging roofs are covered with slate. The original designs, however, provided for tiled roofs. These are hipped or saddle roofs , the gables of which are partly worked as a stepped gable . The tall chimneys are either ridge or eaves.
