Coordinates: 42 ° 50 ′  S , 147 ° 17 ′  E The City of Glenorchy is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 120 km² and has about 46,000 inhabitants (2016).

Glenorchy is located in the southeast of the island and is part of the capital Hobart . The area includes 18 hamlets and towns: Austins Ferry, Berriedale, Chigwell, Claremont, Collinsvale , Derwent Park, Dowsings Point, Glenlusk, Glenorchy , Goodwood, Granton, Lutana, Moonah, West Moonah, Montrose, Rosetta, Springdale and Windermere. The seat of the City Council is in the Glenorchy district in the east of the LGA, where around 11,000 people live (2016).

The Glenorchy City Council has twelve members. The mayor (mayor), his deputy (deputy) and ten Aldermen are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Glenorchy is not divided into districts.
