Coordinates: 42 ° 53 ′  S , 147 ° 19 ′  E The City of Hobart is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 76 km² and has about 50,000 inhabitants (2016).

Hobart City is located in the southeast of the island and is one of several LGAs in the capital Hobart . The area includes 19 neighborhoods: Battery Point, Cascades, Cornelian Bay, Dyynnyrne, Fern Tree, Glebe, Hobart, Lenah Valley, North Hobart, South Hobart, West Hobart, Mount Nelson, Mount Stuart, New Town, Nutgrove, Queens Domain, Ridgeway , Sandy Bay and Lower Sandy Bay. The seat of the City Council is in the Hobart district in the east of the LGA, where around 2300 inhabitants live (2016).

The Hobart City Council has twelve members. The mayor (mayor), his deputy (deputy) and ten Aldermen are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Hobart is not divided into districts.
