Global Warming Policy Foundation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF) is a British lobby group that claims to contribute to public education about global warming ; she is “deeply concerned” about the consequences of climate policy measures. Investigations and critical reporting see the GWPF as an influential “ climate-skeptical ” lobby organization and part of the organized movement that denies the existence of man-made climate change or downplays its consequences .

The GWPF develops its activity primarily through its website and social media. As a lobby arm, it operates the Global Warming Policy Forum , also abbreviated GWPF. She is particularly successful in publicizing her positions in the UK media.

organization

The establishment took place in November 2009 a few days after the hacker incident became known at the climate research center of the University of East Anglia under the chairmanship of Nigel Lawson at 1 Carlton House Terrace, London . The current offices are attached to the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining .

The day-to-day business is managed by Benny Peiser . The Board of trustees consists of Lord Lawson , Lord Barnett , the former Bishop of Chester Peter R. Forster , Lord Donoughue , Lord Fellowes , Martin Jacomb , Henri Lepage , Emma Nicholson (Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne), and Andrew Turnbull ( Baron Turnbull). The Scientific Advisory Board consists of Samuel Brittan , Ian Byatt, Freeman Dyson , Christian Gerondeau , Richard Lindzen , Ian Plimer , Paul Reiter , Nir Shaviv , Philip Stott , Henrik Svensmark , Richard Tol and Fritz Vahrenholt .

financing

The GWPF is a non-profit foundation registered under English law for the promotion of education. It is not obliged to publish the origin of its financial resources and has refused to provide information on this in the past.

In the 2012 and 2013 financial years, the GWPF's annual income was £ 400,000, the vast majority of which came from donations and around £ 12,000 from membership fees. "Charitable" spending was around £ 250,000 annually, the majority of which was staff costs. The few donors known so far were business managers and entrepreneurs.

Global Warming Policy Forum

In 2014, the Charity Commission , a UK government agency that oversees non-profit organizations, concluded that the GWPF was violating the guidelines for non-profit organizations. The GWPF promotes a one-sided view of global warming. The website can therefore not be viewed as an educational offer that is of public use. The GWPF subsequently decided to found a non-profit organization as a campaign platform that should pursue specific political goals. In September 2014, the GWPF founded the Global Warming Policy Forum , which is largely integrated into the website of the Global Warming Policy Foundation .
