Glockengasse (Salzburg)

The Glockengasse in the city of Salzburg is a small street running over three blocks to the north at the foot of the Kapuzinerberg and is located to the northeast just outside the right-hand old town . It has been named since 1873 after the Oberascher bell foundry that used to exist here .

Glockengasse is around 380 meters long and runs parallel to the last block of Linzer Gasse and the beginning of Schallmooser Hauptstrasse. The house numbers Glockengasse 1, 3 and 5 as well as the even numbers from 2 to 8 belong to the Neustadt district (Andräviertel), all numbers from 10 to 15 to the Schallmoos district . House numbers 7 and 9 do not exist.

The Glockengasse begins to the west as a cul-de-sac, where pedestrians have access to and from Linzer Gasse, and flows east into Schallmooser Hauptstrasse. In the middle of the street, a driveway to the parking garage in Kapuzinerberg crosses the parking garage Linzer Gasse .

Buildings and facilities

The following buildings and facilities are located in Glockengasse:

  • House no. 4b: Glockengasse student home, a 105 room home run by the Austrian Student Support Foundation, which is run as a seasonal hotel in summer
  • House No. 4c: Association akzente Salzburg - initiatives for young people , a meeting point for youth cultural needs run by the State of Salzburg (youth theater, youth service point, etc.). At number 4c there is also access to the City Wall , a 90 meter high via ferrata on the Kapuzinerberg
  • House no. 6 houses u. a. the regional office of the Greens Salzburg , an emergency dentist service and an advice center for older unemployed people
  • House No. 8: the Salzburg City Archives, which is also known as the House of City History . In front of the house there is a stumbling block for the conscientious objector and Johann Kendlhofer who was shot in 1944.
