The Society for Salzburg Regional Studies deals with the history of the State of Salzburg and the state capital Salzburg and has been issuing the annual reports of the Society for Salzburg Regional Studies since 1861 .

history

The company was founded on September 24, 1860 by Franz Valentin Zillner and eight other Salzburg citizens. The Salzburg doctor and councilor Franz Valentin Zillner (1816–1896) emerged as the initiator of this association. The first meetings, the participants of which were recruited from Zillner's circle of friends, took place in the then Gasthaus Raith in Milchgasse as early as 1856. All founding members were honorable citizens of the city of Salzburg, including Karl Aberle , Johann Biatzowsky , the painter Georg Pezolt , the historical researcher Georg Abdon Pichler , the doctor Anton Eleutherius Sauter , city physicist Cornel Schwarz, Anton von Schallhammer and district doctor Franz Storch. In the constituent meeting on September 30, 1860, Mayor Heinrich Ritter von Mertens was elected to the first board.

Between 1902 and 1910 the historian Hans Widmann edited the communications and was then made an honorary member of the society.

In 1938 Richard Schlegel , a member of the NSDAP since 1932 and a regional planner at the Reichsstatthalter from May 1, 1938 , was appointed acting head of the association. In 1939, an Aryan paragraph was added to the statutes , which restricted the acquisition of membership to persons of German or related blood . (In the same way, however, the loss of an existing membership was not stipulated in the new statutes .) Any amendments to the statutes were tied to the approval of the competent authority of the NSDAP .
