Anton von Schallhammer

Anton von Schallhammer (born August 23, 1800 in Salzburg , Archbishopric of Salzburg , † May 6, 1868 in Salzburg, Austrian Empire ) was an Austrian officer and historian.

Von Schallhammer entered the military voluntarily at the age of 15 , was promoted to captain in 1843 and retired early in 1849 for health reasons.

He dealt with military history very early on , wrote numerous articles on historical, biographical and topographical topics as well as on Salzburg monuments ( cathedral , Hellbrunn , Kleßheim ). His best-known work is the depiction of the war events in the Duchy of Salzburg in 1800, 1805 and 1809 . In 1860 he was a co-founder of the Society for Salzburg Regional Studies .
