Bell concert

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A bell concert is, unlike a carillon , an acoustic presentation of church bells by striking or swinging freely as well as individually and in combinations (motifs).

procedure

Usually, a bell concert takes place before or at a special church festival or other festive occasion. Regular bell concerts that do not take place on festive days also take place , for example, in the Bell Museum, Stiftskirche Herrenberg . For this purpose, the audience can be found around the church, occasionally directly in the bell chamber , and can find out the progress of the bell concert with additional information about the individual bells as well as the presented chime motifs from accompanying sheets or experts . The more bells there are in a church tower, the more interesting and extensive a bell concert becomes. Most of the time, all partial bells that can be formed from the existing bells and are presented are also rung on liturgical occasions. Many parishes also present their liturgical chimes at the same time as the bell concert .

The soloist often begins with the smallest bell in the church. This is usually followed by the other bells, usually descending in pitch, also solo, followed by small partial chimes from two bells, again starting with small bell combinations. Larger and larger partial chimes follow. The climax of every bell concert is the plenum (full chime), which is usually to be conveyed in absolute silence from the smallest to the largest bell and then rings again.

Examples

The most extensive bell concerts in terms of number of bells are organized by the Herrenberg Collegiate Church in Herrenberg every first Saturday of the month with 18 bells of the main peal, 11 bells of the cymbal peal and 50 bells of the carillon .

The bell concert at Hildesheim Cathedral , which has been taking place since 2015, is one of the largest bell concerts in northern Germany.

One of the most famous bell concerts in Germany is that of the Liebfrauendome in Munich for the feast of St. Benno ; Held for the first time in 1997.

But also other parishes, such as St. Martinskirche in Landshut , St. Margaret in Markt Schwaben , Maria Schutz in München- Pasing , the Marienkirche in Offenbach am Main , St. Egidius in Dietfurt an der Altmühl , St. Martin Basilica and pilgrimage church Mariahilf in Amberg and churches in Münster and Schorndorf have organized bell concerts over the past few years .
