The Glockenmuseum Herrenberg (also: Glockenmuseum Stiftskirche Herrenberg) is located in the Protestant collegiate church of Herrenberg .

The main distinguishing feature of the museum is that most of the exhibits have not had their day, but are still fulfilling their traditional tasks. The arm sinner's bell is considered to be the oldest surviving bell in Württemberg. Visitors can observe how the bells are used to strike the clock and how they are rung with a fixed ringing order at different times of the day and church seasons. Building on the gloriosa with the nominal b 0 , the nominal sequence of the bells forms a scale over two and a half octaves .

In addition to the original Herrenberg chimes and various newly cast bells, the collection of bells also includes individual pieces from the former German eastern regions. Particularly noteworthy are two Gothic sugar loaf bells and the cast of an over 800-year-old beehive bell from Thuringia , but also some excellent examples of more recent bell-casting art. The eleven new bells of the cymbal peal were cast by eight different bell founders in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Historically, the whole history of German bells can be shown in examples, with 36 (as of 2015) ringable bells, this is the largest ringing at least in Europe, plus 50 played carillon bells and an hourly chime, others are attached in this way, that they can be struck by hand with a hammer or clapper. In total, almost 100 of the around 120 bells can actually still be heard.

Glockenweg

One of the milestones at the "old calibration office"

Since 2009, there have been around 40 paving stones set into the ground on the way from the train station to the collegiate church with the bell museum , making the way to the museum easy for visitors who are unfamiliar with the location.

The individual waymarks were cast from bell bronze in a form designed by the building works of the collegiate church in Herrenberg , relocated by the local technical services and financed by the city of Herrenberg.

You can see the logo of the Glockenmuseum Stiftskirche Herrenberg , the tip of the stylized onion pointing in the direction of the museum , and the inscription " Glockenmuseum Stiftskirche " under the heading "Glockenweg".

Carillon

On June 24, 2012, a carillon with 50 bells was inaugurated. In addition to concerts, this musical instrument can be heard every day at the liturgical bells and at 10 a.m., 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Concerts

The bell concerts , which are held at least every first Saturday of the month, are unique in this regularity , at which the bells of the main peal are always heard, along with the peal of the cymbal and often of the carillon. The composition and sequence of the ringing is mostly determined by campanologists or the pastors of the Evangelical parish in Herrenberg.

Carillon concerts by national and international carillon performers take place at less regular intervals, regardless of the bell concerts.
