The bell tower of Großkadolz

The bell tower with the chapel of St. Philumena is on the main square of Großkadolz in Lower Austria . It is a listed building .

history

In 1839 Countess Franciska Hardegg had a chapel in the vineyards renovated and a picture of St. Philumena painted. Because of several attempts to break into the chapel, the lattice of the chapel, the image of the saint and the rest of the furnishings of the chapel were picked up and re-erected in the chapel with its bell tower, built in 1849 on the main square of Großkadolz and consecrated on June 12, 1850. Originally the chapel was integrated into the courtyard wall of the manor house. After negotiations between the municipality and the Hardegg estate administration , the current situation was restored at the beginning of the 1940s.

In 1942 the bell had to be delivered. In 1948 a new bell weighing 81 kilograms was purchased from the Pfundner bell foundry in Vienna . The consecration of the bells took place on December 19, 1948. The first electrical bell was installed in 1958 by the Pfundner company. In 1987 the chapel and bell tower were renovated. Presumably in the course of this work a new bell was installed.
