The Slavic rampart of Kieve , a municipality in the Mecklenburg Lake District , is located a good 1.2 kilometers north of the town directly on the Elde . It is one of many Slavic ramparts in Germany.

The rampart consists of two parts: an oval main castle about 90 meters in size and a small rampart facing northeast, about 40 meters in diameter. Both areas of the castle were connected by a wooden bridge. Ceramic finds from Feldberger, Woldegker and Menkendorfer Ware date the Niederungsburg to the 7th to 11th century.

Possibly the castle was a cult place of the Müritz people . Smaller ramparts to the north-east often indicate places of worship among the Slavs. There were similar temple castles in Groß Raden , Plöwen and on the Fischerinsel in Tollensesee near Neubrandenburg . This type of castle existed in the Middle Slavic period of the 9th to 11th centuries.
