Bell tower

The Prieschka bell tower is a monument that is located in the Prieschka district of Bad Liebenwerda in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg .

history

In 1929 the brothers Georg and Julius Müller, born in Prieschka and living in Leipzig , donated 5,000 marks to their place of birth . This money was to be used to buy two bells and to build the bell tower that went with them. On October 16, 1929, the clinker building was officially opened, in which almost all residents and all clubs took part. The bells were consecrated by the Prösener pastor, because the Würdenhain pastor Buchholz, because of previous disputes between the pastor's office and Prieschka about the second bell, refused to be consecrated. The two donors were made honorary citizens of the place. On the morning of February 20, 1942, the two bells were rung for the last time by Julius Jost and his grandson, before they had to be dismantled by government orders and handed in to be melted down. Thanks to numerous donations from the community and income from events by the men's choir, two new bells were inaugurated by Pastor Vogel on Christmas Day 1953. The steel bells came from the Schilling Brothers foundry in Apolda . The big bell weighs 480 kg and bears the inscription: Time is tough - Lord stand by us make us free . The smaller bell has a weight of 360 kg and bears the biblical saying: The Lord gives peace to your borders .

The bells sound every weekend (Saturday, summer: 6 p.m.; winter: 5 p.m.) and before every public holiday. When a parishioner dies, you ring the bell for the deceased to rest. In 1994 the city councilors Ingeborg Angermann and Peter Weck made their attendance fees available so that the tradition of ringing bells would not have to be stopped, which threatened due to lack of money.
