The Glossamiini are a tribe of cardinalfish (Apogonidae) introduced in 2014, which consists of the two genera Glossamia and Yarica . Glossamia species are found in the intertidal and flowing fresh waters of New Guinea. One species, which may represent a species complex of different cryptic species , lives in Australia. Yarica hyalosoma , the only species of the genus Yarica , lives in lowland lakes , flowing waters and in the estuary of rivers from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands via Myanmar , Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, New Guinea to the Solomon Islands and New Caledonia and north via the Philippines to Saipan .
features
Glossamiini species are 9.5 ( Glossamia timika ) to 18 cm ( Glossamia aprion ) long and are relatively high-backed and colorless to transparent. The body and head are covered with comb scales. Round scales can be found on the neck, on the cheeks and gill cover and on the front sideline . The bone ridge on the preoperculum is smooth, the edges of the preoperculum are sawn. A basic phenoid is present. There are brush-shaped teeth arranged in several rows on the premaxillary, lower jaw and palate. Teeth can also be missing on the ectopterygoid . There are five free hypuralia in the caudal fin skeleton . The caudal fin is indented, spade-shaped or rounded.
- Fin formula : Dorsal VI; Dorsal 2 I / 8-10; Anal II / 8-10; Pectorals 13-16, caudals 9 + 8
- Scale formula : SL 24–50
- Gill rake : 7–15
- Vertebrae 10 + 14
The first ray of the dorsal fin is unbranched and segmented, the first ray of the anal fin is branched and segmented. The fifteen central rays of the caudal fin are segmented and branched, the upper and lower are unbranched. Each lateral line scale has one pore above the midline and one below. The stomach, intestines and peritoneum are light.
