Gluconasturtiin is a chemical compound from the group of mustard oil glycosides .

Watercress

The common name gluconasturtiin is derived from the occurrence u. a. in the watercress ( Nasturtium officinale ). The systematic name is 2-phenylethyl glucosinolate .

Like the similar sinigrin , gluconasturtiin also produces a sharp, pungent taste.

Recent studies have shown an influence of gluconasturtiin on the resistance of the plant Barbarea vulgaris to the larvae of the harmful insects Pieris rapae (family of white flies ) and Mamestra brassicae ( coal owl , both order of butterflies ).
