architecture

The Gnadenkapelle replaces an older half-timbered chapel from 1765 on “St. Pesch ”, a place of pilgrimage since the 16th century .

The current chapel dates from 1870/71 and is in its original structural connection with the parish church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary (1851/51) and a former hospital (taken over in 1868) on the opposite side of the Heiligenpesch street.

The freestanding brick chapel copies the cemetery chapel of Waldniel and was designed by a building committee, without architect built. The octagonal chapel on the same side is completely surrounded by a wall plinth. The side facing the street is marked as the entrance side. The slate roof is broken eightfold and comes together in a centrally mounted roof ridge . This one has a bell and carries a cross. The interior closes with a ribbed vault .

The balanced structure is worth protecting for architectural and historical reasons and as an old pilgrimage site for religious and historical reasons.
