Goalpara is a city in the Indian state of Assam . Goalpara is located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River .
The city is the capital of the Goalpara district . Goalpara has the status of a municipal board . The city is divided into 19 wards . It had 53,430 inhabitants on the cut-off date of the 2011 census, of which 26,970 were men and 26,460 women. Muslims make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 53%. Hindus form a minority of over 45%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 83.8% and thus above the national average.
