Gobernador Gregores is the capital of the Río Chico department in the province of Santa Cruz in southern Argentina . It lies at a ford of the usually wild Río Chico , sheltered from the cold winds in the valley of the river.

The climate is cold and dry. Average temperatures in February reach 14 degrees Celsius, while in July they drop to 0 degrees Celsius. Average annual rainfall is around 170 millimeters. history

Gobernador Gregores was an aik or resting place of the Ahonikenk until the beginning of the 20th century . Then came European settlers who gave the place the name Cañada León or Cañadón del Puma .

The founding date of Gobernador Gregores by provincial law is April 1, 1871 .
