In the first week 45,000 copies of the album were sold in the United States. Goblin thus rose to rank 5 on the Billboard 200 . After the album nearly dropped out of the charts in early August 2011, Tyler, the Creator won the Best New Artist category for the video for the song Yonkers at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards . Subsequently, the album rose 92 places to 96th place. By the end of August 2011, 108,000 units of Goblin had been sold.

In the German album charts, Goblin rose to position 97. It could only stay in the charts for a week.

criticism

The e-zine Laut.de rated Goblin with three out of a possible five evaluation points. From the editor's point of view, Alexander Austel, “ flow, beats and rap itself ” by Tyler, the Creator are rather mediocre and the “ songs are hardly catchy ”. In terms of content, “ only the fucking ill masturbation, suicide and murder fantasies of an adolescent who are underlaid with curses and which probably speak from the heart of the entire American youth ” remain in memory. The piece Yonkers convinces with the rapper's " deep and dark voice ". The background music is characterized as an " annoying, gloomy synth beat ", which Tyler, the Creator is superficially talking about, what pisses him off and mostly incoherent stupidity . The rapper's qualities become clear “ when it comes to father or family ”, “ when it becomes personal ”.
