Godefroy from Huy
Godefroy von Huy (* around 1100, † around 1173 ) was a Maasland goldsmith .
His workshop is characterized by the production of reliquary shrines and enamel work . The iconographic themes of the Maasland goldsmiths lay in the typological representations of scenes from the Old and New Testaments , preserved in the fragments of a lecture cross in the Schnütgen Museum in Cologne. Godefroy von Huy (or his workshop) was also the creator of the reliquary of Pope Alexander , now in the Musées royaux d'art et d'histoire in Brussels .
It has always been suggested that Godefroy may have been the teacher of Nicholas of Verdun . He is also succeeded by the master of the Stavelot portable altar .
