The Godewind Park is a park in the Lübeck district of Travemünde on the Baltic Sea.

location

The Godewind-park is located between Imperial Avenue and Godewind west of the beach in New Travemünde at an altitude of 3- m above sea level. NN . Together with the villa colony, it was laid out on the ridge of the Gneversdorfer Feldmark at the beginning of the 20th century. At its southern end is the Lübeck-Travemünde Strand train station .

Emergence

In 1897, Travemünde also planned the Strandbahnhof, a villa colony on the Bay of Lübeck. City Planning Director Schaumann prepared a B-plan for 76 villas on the Fördehang, which served the Berlin architect Hermann Muthesius as the basis for the 1906 B-Plan for a residential area with parks in the style of English garden city planning . The boggy meadows of the area between the colony and the Kaiserallee were converted into a pond system and filled with the earth masses obtained from the other meadows, so that a public green area could be created above the groundwater level.

The park was named after the street Godewind , which together with the named streets of the villa complex corresponded to a blueprint for a ship, which was done in consideration of Travemünde for sailing. In the public park, gently curved paths took up floral Art Nouveau motifs . With native tree species, ponds and ornamental plants in a natural character, it corresponded to a classic English landscape park.

Godewind Park since 2000

On behalf of the Lübeck Travemünde Tourist Office, the Godewindpark was designed in a modern way.

Modern materials such as concrete slabs and granite pavement were used for the routing and the design of the square and seating, pergolas and lighting made of steel were set up to create the space. Open-ended arches were used to create views.

The butterfly bridge - an engineering achievement made of steel - was built as a further design element. It allows you to cross the central narrowing of the pond.

The vegetation of the 2.1  hectare facility today consists of diverse planting with solitary trees, tall trunks, hedges, bulbous plants and lawns.
